Sherry Fisher Maui therapist

Sherry Fisher, MA, MHC (also known as Sherry Lynn Fisher) is a counselor, mediator, educator, and artist who has worked therapeutically with children and families since 1993. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, NYC and her certification in art therapy from The New School for Social Research in 1993.

In 2002, Sherry completed her Masters of Arts in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Since then she has received advanced training in numerous therapeutic approaches, such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt, Hakomi, Hypnotherapy, REBT, Narrative Therapy, EFT and, Nonviolent Communication (NVC). She specializes in trauma.

Sherry has worked and taught on Maui, the mainland United States, and Australia for parents and professionals in the human service fields. She has led educational and therapeutic programs for Colorado State University, University of Colorado at Boulder’s Multicultural Counseling Center and Ombud’s Office, Naropa University, Indiana University, Sydney Dympna House, as well as numerous non-profits and educational setting on Maui.

She currently has a private counseling practice in upcountry Maui. Sherry runs the Pono Parenting Program which uses the Nurtured Heart Approach and Simplicity Parenting philosophies as a foundation and brings in practical, parenting tools from attachment/attunement, development, Love & Logic, CBT, DBT, and other skill building programs.

Sherry Fisher, MA, MHC counsels children and adults, individuals, couples, and families. She mediates for self-referred and court-ordered individuals and families going through separation and divorce or other transitions.  Sherry runs long and short-term therapeutic and psycho-educational groups--some of which have been in existence for over ten years on Maui.

As a counselor, trauma specialist, and art therapist, Sherry Fisher, MA, MHC works with the entire family--each member individually and combinations of family members as needed (Bowenian Family Systems model). This approach allows everyone to better understand and address the unhelpful family patterns and her/his part in the overall dynamic.

Sherry counsels children and adults, individuals, couples, families, and runs therapeutic and psycho-educational groups.

Sherry is a strengths-based therapist who brings body, mind, and creative spirit together to address the current issue and support meaningful, long-lasting change in client's lives. Her approach is to help clients identify habitual patterns and use various techniques to shift those patterns.

She is trained in Imago couples work and uses a developmental, attachment model of Internal Family Systems(IFS) to help couples move from conflict & avoidant interactions to conscious, empowered connection.

Sherry's mediation services support families to successfully co-parent and create realistic, family plans. She has worked with Maui Family Courts since 2008 to help families in high conflict separation/divorce cases.

Sherry runs parent groups on a weekly and monthly basis focusing on identifying parental values and learning practical skills to implement those values. Other groups can be developed for specific needs, such as: Changing Bodies for preteens; Positive Self Image; Shifting Negative Thoughts using REBT; Effective Communication; Marriage & Parenting.
